Application deployment requires managing Administrative rights on end user computers.  Giving applications Administrator privileges and unrestricted access puts the machine at risk to viruses yet restricted Administrator rights may cause an application to fail because it requires writing to the file system and registry.  Further more, multi-user access such as Terminal Server or shared desktops can also cause PC instability if users are granted write access to global registry and file system locations.

Thinstall eliminates the need to change Administrative privileges during deployment and update stages, protecting the computer from registry and file system changes.

All of the application executables, DLLs, registry keys, data files, and 3rd party libraries can be compressed into a single EXE that runs as an isolated application, without modifying the host operating system, file system, or registry.

Complementary to machine virtualization

Thinstall Application Virtualization Technology is complementary to machine virtualization technologies such as VMWare and Virtual PC. Because Thinstall does not use emulation or simulate an entirely isolated PC, running applications have no performance penalties, additional OS licenses are not required, and virtualized applications have direct access to the parts of the PC file system and network as permitted by the administrator. The Thinstall Virtual OS (only 300k) is packaged with each application enabling them to run instantly without any installation. For the first time, multiple versions of applications and their required runtime components can run concurrently on a single OS.
