Thinstall Business Value

The Thinstall Application Virtualization for Corporate IT ensures painless and conflict free software deployment.

Reduce time to deployment

The speed of business requires IT to be responsive yet to balance changes against cost and risk.  Application virtualization makes this balancing act easier:

  • Integrating applications into the desktop is faster because there are no changes to the desktop image.
  • Updating applications is faster because QA testing can be reduced to single application testing. Having single application dependency also significantly removes the risk in deploying applications.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving post installation conflicts takes up the majority of deployment time. Thinstall significantly reduces this time drain for both IT and end users because conflicts are virtually eliminated. Troubleshooting, when needed, is faster because of the Thinstall real-time application logging capability.
  • Thinstall greatly accelerates new software development projects by enabling developers to use the latest runtimes, frameworks, and libraries - without requiring installation of such components on end-user desktops.

Works with popular deployment tools

Thinstall works with popular desktop management suites, software deployment, and installation tools so there is no impact to current deployment infrastructure. For example, applications can easily be converted to a single self-contained executables that can be deployed through desktop management tools such as Microsoft SMS or Altiris. After initial delivery, incremental updates can be performed, minimizing user disruption and network traffic. Active Directory can be used to control application access.

Eliminate software conflicts in any Windows environment

Thinstall removes compatibility issues that applications face when deployed across varying versions of Windows:

  • Run multiple versions of the .NET framework, Java, or MDAC on the same machine - without rewriting any code.
  • Eliminate the need to install shared libraries and runtimes such as the.NET framework, JRE, MDAC.
  • Optimize any access environment: Terminal Servers, Citrix MetaFrame, locked-down desktops, laptops, and home PCs.
  • Eliminate file system and registry conflicts in thin client and locked down desktops
  • Maintain the integrity of locked down desktops while deploying any software application without affecting stability.
  • Ability to run multiple versions of an application concurrently on PC’s or Terminal Servers and Citrix
  • Allowing multiple conflicting applications to run simultaneously on a single computer for risk management and consolidation of Citrix/Terminal Servers

Further more, Thinstall virtualized applications can be accessed over any existing delivery infrastructure such as internal company networks (LAN, WAN, Intranet), the Internet, Web servers, CD-ROM, and Flash devices. (For a USB deployment example, find out more about the Thinstall Virtualized Citrix ICA Client.)

Complementary to OS virtualization

Thinstall Application Virtualization Technology is complementary to OS virtualization technologies such as VMWare and Virtual PC. Because Thinstall does not use emulation or simulate an entirely isolated PC, running applications has no performance penalties, OS licensing costs are reduced, and virtualized applications have direct access to the parts of the PC and network specified by the administrator. The Thinstall VOS (only 300k) is packaged with each application enabling them to run instantly without any installation. For the first time, multiple versions of applications and their required runtime components can run concurrently on a single OS.
